Why McLean Counseling

Matched, not assigned.

Finding a therapist shouldn't mean cold-calling a list. With ten clinicians in one practice, we look at what you need and who you'd work well with, then make the introduction.

  1. 01

A real person reads your request

Our intake team asks a few questions about what's going on and what you've tried before, so you're matched with the clinician who fits your needs.

  2. 02

    Meet them before you commit

Your clinician reaches out for a free 15-minute consultation. Ask questions, get a feel for them, and decide if it's the right fit.

  3. 03

Therapy and psychiatry under one roof

If medication could help, our psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are down the hall, and they coordinate with your therapist.

  4. 04

    Testing when you need answers

Our psychologists offer evaluations for ADHD, autism, and learning differences, so questions about diagnosis don't mean a referral elsewhere.

  5. 05

    Times that fit your life

Our office is open weekdays, and many clinicians arrange evening or weekend sessions directly with you.

  6. 06

In the office or from home

Meet in our McLean office or by secure video when commuting, childcare, or a busy week gets in the way.

Get Matched
Do you take insurance?
We are an out-of-network practice, so we don't bill insurance companies directly. Our services are almost always reimbursable through out-of-network benefits, and we help you submit your claims. Check with your insurer about your out-of-network mental health benefits. We don't participate in Medicare or Medicaid.
How do I get started?
Fill out the form or call us. Our intake team asks a few background questions, such as how long you've had symptoms and any previous counseling, then matches you with a clinician. Your clinician reaches out for a free 15-minute consultation and you set up your first appointment together.
Can I see someone online?
Yes. Our therapists offer secure online sessions for children, teens, and adults, and our psychiatric nurse practitioners offer telepsychiatry visits. You can also meet in person at our McLean office.
What happens in a session?
Sessions are usually 50 minutes. Your clinician talks through your concerns and goals with you, and together you work on coping skills, communication, and insight. Therapy works best as a collaboration, so you set the pace.
Do you have evening or weekend appointments?
Our office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Each clinician keeps their own schedule, so evening and weekend times can often be arranged directly with them.
Do I need to live in McLean?
No. We welcome clients from nearby communities including Arlington, Falls Church, Tysons, and Vienna.
Do you see children, teens, and couples?
Yes. Our team works with children, teens, adults, couples, and families, and our psychologists also offer psychological testing for ADHD, autism, and learning differences.
